Apa Kabar, 2014?

Hai. Ini Echa. Yang masih ga berubah dari 2013 lalu. Bullshit bgt kalo bilang, "New year, new me."

Sumpah ya, I don't know why tapi akhir-akhir gue ga menemukan motivasi menulis. Muehehehehe). I found it frustrating but I also believed, when it's meant to be, it will be. Gur tipe penulis yang prinsipnya finish it whatever it takes. I feel like a hypocrite from this very moment, but that's it.

Gue tau sih gue manjain diri sendiri juga. Atmosfer "kandang" baru gue bener-bener ga ngenakin buat nulis. Semoga aja gue menemukan that urge to write setelah pindah ke rumah lama, aamiin.

Jadi apa dong, yang berubah dari 2013 ke 2014? Well, kalo para jomblo ngetweet new-year-new-me, gue pun berkicau balik, new-year-new-status! Hehehe. Eh, ga boleh takabur ah.

So after spending the last seventeen months--yep, you read it no wrong, seventeen--thinking all love ever does is break and burn and end, I finally found someone who's able to put the pieces together. I feel so lucky having him next to me. It's like nothing else matters really.

Season changes but my feeling towards him never does. Dia tetep masih orang yang nawarin gue brownies padahal kita belom tau nama masing-masing. Dia tetep masih orang yang ngangkat telepon tengah malam gue; yang ngerespon curhat menye-menye gue, sengantuk apapun. Feeling like this comes once in a lifetime, begitu petuah mereka yang suhunya romansa. So when you finally meet someone who can dwell you like that, never evet let them go.

2013 brought us bliss, after all. The afternoon we spent on my now-built home roof, with wind slaped our cheeks. The night when we did nothing but staring up at the sky and fireworks, thanking each other's pressence, my palm pressed to his so I was saved in his warmth. The morning I woke up to his arms and our friends morning business.

Cups of coffee we shared, my writings he edited, the game we glambed. For all those times, I feel grateful.

We agreed to refuse calling it pacaran, karena kami terlalu takut ada sesuatu yang berubah. Biarin aja begini. Meant to be or not meant to be. As simple as that. Yang manusia bisa lakukan hanya memperjuangkannya.

So welcome me, 2014. Welcome this Echa who just turnt her sumo (susah move on) mode to amo (already move on) mode. Yeay!

Selama libur sebulan itu gue dan dia main, he took me to his house. Kadang kita nyetir tanpa tujuan. But I knew I got all I needed, right here in the passenger's seat. Muahahaha.

...

Nyokapnya kenal gue dan keluarga gue, but it didn't prevent her from interogating like, "Kamu ngapain aja sama anak saya?"

It's funny how destiny toy us, humans. Di saat gue already moved on, he came back.

It was like the world's burden suddenly moved onto my shoulder. Seeing him here, offering help, like nothing happened between us, infuriated me. All-business gue nyahut, "HP." Dia nanya lagi, "Oh. Mau gue bantu cari?"

Just like that. Gue dengan senang hati menolak tapi dia ngotot so I let him. No touch, no I miss you bromance, no words. Just me and him, looking for my phone yang ternyata ketinggalan di rumah. Oke itu antiklimaks. Tapi sumpah, gue udah masukin HP gue ke kantong!

Yea okelah. Rada awkward sih. Those more awkward moments lead us to beyond awkward moments karena ortu si Present nawarin si Past bareng. He agreed, dan jadilah kami bertiga as a team duduk di seat paling belakang, si Present di tengah dan mancing obrolan, to which I responded halfheartedly.

The Past came back to say goodbye, actually. Dia bakal pindah, lebih jauh lagi. Bukan di benua seberang Indonesia lagi, tapi seberangnya seberang. Amerika.

And I wrote this to fulfill his request, actually. He wanna keep up with my world, with so-he-called our world. It surprised me because, yah, satu hal yang bikin gue greget sama dia karena dia ga sungguh-sungguh mendukung mimpi gue jadi penulis. Dan tiba-tiba, ujuk-ujuk, when everything's too late, when things have been said and done, he asked me to write.

You had three years to ask me that, big bro. Ke mana aja lau?

Yah tapi sudahlah. Alhamdulillah juga dia masih sadar. I know you read this, and I genuinely write this not to break your heart like you broke mine. I speak up my mind.

Oke. So that's my holiday. Sebelum holiday gue berpartisipasi di Bulungan Cup XV, jadi seksi kesehatan lagi. Tapi entah kenapa rasanya ga se-"seru" dulu. Ga se-hectic dulu. Ga selucu dulu. Mungkin lucu waktu gue sama Tyas Lisa Raka nemenin Kak Meita ke pasar Pramuka buat beli obat dan kita ke Sevel Matraman. Cuma gue dan Kak Meita doang yang jomblo di sana, and we both saw a pair of new lovebirds.

Strength. Gue kagum sama Kak Meita. Dia mandiri bgt. I wish I could copy that from her. Her independence. Her simplicity in doing things.

Year hadn't changed but something inside me changed. Gue kesel waktu adik kelas nolak gue suruh beli es batu di waktu terjepit. Tapi sumpah yak, waktu gue kelas satu, I did it tanpa banyak protes. Entah gue yang kurang galak atau gimana. Akhirnya sih gue lagi yang jalan. Emang udah kodrat gue kali jadi seksi laler.

Mayan jalan-jalan. Duo laler on vacation, iye ga Lis?

Things I let go and I welcomed. Chances I nodded at without hesitating, no matter how terrified I was, and chances I trashed like two coins sliding up between my fingers. People I high-fived and people I kissed goodbye. So, so many things that I wish I could save inside my head forever.

Year changed, people changed. Tapi gue ga mau ambil pusing. Gue pengin menduplikasi kemandirian Kak Meita, atau prinsip meant to be/not meant to be-nya Refal. I'm still looking forward to the moments when I cheer up, when I feel the warmth of spotlight, when I stand proudly, when I dance awkwardly for no reason at all. When I feel infinite, when the mixed feeling inside me bubble up and I feel like exploding.

Gue ga bakal nyari saat-saat ketika I cannot hold up to my tears anymore. When I get my hopes down. When I feel tricked and betrayed, even by myself. But I would welcome them if they appear finally. Because really, you can't be happy unless you let yourself unhappy sometimes.

In three words I can sum up everything I've learned about life: it goes on.

Thanks for the memories, 2013, dan salam cenat-cenut, 2014.

Cornered

Those seconds when you have that urge to find a corner...

and you find it

and you cry.

Kalau every struggle you struggled ga berarti apa-apa?

Maybe it's me and my blind opstimism to blame.

There are some things I need to confess. Gue adalah tipikal orang yang lebih seneng dipeluk daripada dikasihtau, "I love you." Because what? Karena ada beberapa hal that only your body gesture can express, can't be represented with your words. It was weird. It was rare. I remember it all too well. The feeling was abstract. But it was there. Skipping your heart a beat.

When someone does that to me, I know from the very first touch that they love me.

Maaf ya, udah muter-muter segini panjang ga taunya gini doang.

Gue kesel. Ga tau kenapa. Padahal sepele. Tapi tetep aja gondok. I hate those kind of people who say, "I miss you," without even making any effort to erase that missing feeling. To replace that, "Kangen. Kapan ketemu?" dengan, "Kapan-kapan lagi yaaa."

Oke ya. Call me unromantic tapi gue emang jarang bilang kangen. Jarang. It's my way showing people how much I care.

Gue ga bakal jadi munafik di sini. When it comes to affection, I don't always give without remembering. Sadar atau ga, we're craving for it. Dua arah. When you give your affection to people you love, you expect them to give theirs in return.

Gue tau hal berubah. I watch every motion of it. Time changes people. Pain changes people. They change me, too.

But really, I'll do everything it takes to get you back.

Cause that's what (boy)(girl)(best) friends are supposed to do, begitu kan, liriknya? Accepting each other's flaws, because it hurts you less than watching them go.

Kadang lo mikir apa mereka masih butuh lo.

...

iya, kan?

Tapi lo juga ga berani nanya, apalagi mengonfrontasi. Karena lo takut dengar kenyataannya. Karena lo takut kalau suspeksi lo benar--bahwa mereka memang ga butuh lo, it would shard you to ashes.

...

iya, kan?

best books 2013 end of year survey

Best book you read in 2013?
Contemporary YA: So many, but my pick goes to Amy & Roger's Epic Detour by Morgan Matson. Road trip across the states, the drawing, the bill, the short recap of each state, and the playlist. Love 'em all.
Dystopian/Post-Apocalyptic: Requiem by Lauren Oliver. Sorry, Allegiant.
Historical Fiction: Is The Book Thief by Markus Zusak "historical" enough?
Paranormal: Bloodlines series, all books! All hail Richelle Mead!
Science Fiction: Is Bloodlines scientific enough?
Fantasy: House of Hades by Rick Riordan.

Book you were excited about & thought you were going to like it but didn't?
The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. Ugh I couldn't quite understand the language no matter how long I opened my dictionary. The Beginning of Everything by Robyn Schneider also wasn't worth the wait. Oh, yeah, and Infinite Sky by C. J. Flood.

The House of Hades by Rick Riordan, The Indigo Spell by Richelle Mead, and the unputdownable goes to How to Love by Katie Cotugno!

Bloodlines Review

I guess I never posted anything related to single book but nevermind. I always feel this odd energy filling me out after I finish a book, eager to write my thoughts. I failed most of times, to be exact, but Bloodlines series really does make me swoon.

It's a run-off series after Vampire Academy series, which I--apologetically--haven't started any. It was a miracle I found Bloodlines, hard cover, on Periplus Year End Sale in Gandaria City. Its price was 59k, which made me frantic in disbelief. To my surprise, the price wasn't included in the sale, so I ended up bringing a hardcover book for 41k only.

Anyway, Bloodlines is about a religiously frigid girl named Sydney Sage, finding herself in such trouble. She serves an organization named The Alchemist (Paulo Coelho, remarked), the only humans who know about vampires. Vampire rave itself is divided into two... what? Subrace? Subcategories. Yeah, whatever it is, there are Moroi and Strigoi. Moroi is the friendly one and Strigoi is the wild one. Oh, and there's dhampir too, half-human and half-vampire person. Sydney went on mission to protect Jilllian Dragomir the Moroi princess, befriended with vampire mates Eddie and Adrian, and along the way she found friendship, and maybe love for a lifetime, too.

To be honest, I had hard times reading it for the first times. Too many terms and lack of explanation, though I understood it as I flipped the page. Bloodlines was a slow reading for me, while I expected more and more actions. I often felt blindfolded and had to turn the page to the previous one to see what I missed.

Bloodlines is not like Twilight, I have to warn you. The most transparent part... well, in Bloodlines you got a feeder/dhampir who would let you drink their blood because they enjoyed it. Very-not-Twilight, huh?

The ending... oh, well, is it just me who sensed the ending was too rushed? I don't know really. Maybe I expected more of vampire thing, which I must had found if I'd read Vampire Academy earlier. Bloodlines for me is more about Sydney's experiences dealing with human normal lives after being caged by her blinded race and homeschooled. She has no idea about friendship and dating looks like. She's really concerned about the burdens she endure, exquisitely responsible, and utterly a badass star pupil. It taught me a thing really, that books won't get you nowhere unless you experience the thing they teach in real life.

I shrieked for more as I turned flr the last page. That was it?! That was the ending?! It wasn't even an ending! At least for me. I hung by the ending and soon went to Gramedia for a copy of The Golden Lily, the sequel. Unfortunately, the ones they sold were in hardcovers and priced 225k. I wished earth would split in two and swallowed me for once.

But I finally managed to read The Golden Lily, and I felt the tense began to perch. Action and action. Fast-moving. I also enjoyed Sydney's dating life with a guy. Oooh, and Adrian appeared more, too, and I rolled my eyes over and over whenever he exclaimed his love wordlessly yet Sydney never got it right. Some mysteries added, and I really, really love how things seemed to unveiled one by one. But let me get it straight for you; if you want a book whose mysteries last for the whole series, Bloodlines defintely isn't for you.

I loved The Indigo Spells more and more. Now the actions seemed unstoppable, mostly because there were more things for Sydney to handle. Her self exclaim as a witch who could used spell while a witch-hunter (appearing to be two by the ending) traveled across the state for girls like her. And a guy named Marcus who successfully ran from the Alchemist. Things mixed up well and I loved it moreee because whenever there was Sydney, Adrian was nearby. I loved how Sydney and Adrian worked things out and eventually found a reason to fight for their love despite their scathing different worlds. Over all, love is true and unbeatable, whether you're a human or a vampire.

I haven't started The Fiery Heart becase I have to give my eyes chances to rest, but I'll let you know if I have. Goodnight and don't let the bugs--or vampire--bite you!

In the end, it's always me again
Dancing round all alone
Making list of lullabies to play

In the end, it's always they again
Who leave first
After saying they're gonna be here

In the end, it's always you again
Caring if I'm coming home
Answering my midnight sob
Soothing me to sleep

In the end, it's always us again
Two people against the world
Without anything to unfold
But hope, and head, and heart

some people ask me

Some people ask me
Where rainbow ends
And I know the answer
Right before your eyes

Some people ask me
When the sun smiles
And I know the answer
Everytime your lips arched

Some people ask me
Why the stars hide behind the day
And I know the answer
As you kiss my cheek hi

Some people ask me
Why the moon never let the earth rotating alone
And I know the answer
When you wait for me on the corner of the street

Some people ask me
How butterflies can fly in stomach
And I know the answer
Once we intertwined

Some people ask me
Why the fire burns
And I know the answer
Anytime I see the red in you

But never ask me
How long it takes to forget
someone who teaches you
to dance in the rain
who makes your body
immune to the pain
who reminds you of beauty
and clarity
and hopes that keep you alive

I'm on the middle of the track
trying to solve the answer
